The Third Wheel
Bon Iver-Skinny Love
I recently bought an mp3 player because I prefer to be fashionably late. First and foremost I have to say 8-track you’re dead to me. You’re just obstructive and you confuse people into thinking I have an atari and that they can play games named after bands from the 70’s.
So this happened. I had Bon Iver’s “Flume” and I liked it. So I sucked the brains out of a friends computer and got both of his albums. I’ve played “Skinny Love” with an insatiable appetite. Endless helpings with something the kids call ‘loop’.
I can’t get enough. I don’t think it’s real. I look at this little gizmo at all angles, flipping it over and over, tasting it tentively with my tongue, dipping it in water, etc. All of which I do in complete confused wonderment at how Bon Iver made such a perfect tear-your-clothes-off-leave-you-fetal-in-the-corner-shivering-in-the-womb-of-ambience heartwrenchingly good song.
Thank you for this. I’ve been thirsty for so long.
